Flying Officer Donald McMillan of Toronto was a member of 440 Squadron and was noted in a press release dated February 9, 1945. He was quoted as saying, "We dropped our bombs directly in front of the engine. I think that really shook them up when we turned back and came in to strafe." The squadron was pounding German rail lines on the eastern side of the Rhine and Maas Rivers, through dense clouds. Troops from one train that was attacked by the City of Ottawa squadron shortly after first light, streamed from the six passenger coaches shen the pilots dropped their bombs beside the train. The coaches were strafed with high casualties.
