Benjamin "Benny" Horace Dunn was a member of 440 Squadron. He was born in Ottawa to Ruby Kidder and Frederick Dunn.
Training and Service: Summary: No. 20 E.F.T.S. Oshawa, ON.; No. 6 S.F.T.S. Dunnville, ON. Course No. 94; No. 1 O.T.U. Bagotville Course No. 26; No. 57 O.T.U.; No. 55 O.T.U; No, 83 G.S.U.; No. 440 Sqn; No. 416 Sqn; Repat to Canada. He received his wings at 6 SFTS on April 6, 1944 and was posted from 83 GSU to 440 Squadron on March 8, 1945. His first operational flight was on the 14th. In the group photo, he is the first from the right on the wing -- blond, no hat, right wing next to fuselage. He was with 440 until disbandment in August 1945.
He also flew Spitfires during WWII.
F/O B.H. Dunn flew 28 combat ops between 14-Mar-1945 (first ops) and 20-Apr-1945 (last ops) with No. 440 Sqn. (RCAF). F/O B.H. Dunn was part of the British Air Force of Occupation, (B.A.F.O.) with No. 416 Sqn. (RCAF) based at Uetersen, Germany.
He attended Queen's University Medical School post-war, graduating in 1952. Post-grad: pathology in Kingston, NY. Assumed directorship of laboratories at Grace Hospital, Windsor, Ontario, 1957. He retired in 1989.
He married Barbara Davis.
