Leslie Lewis Smathers was a pilot with 438 Squadron. His NCO S/N was R/60508. He was a Sgt, F/Sgt, WO2, WO1 before his commission in 1945. He flew mostly with the RAF on Spitfires 54, 80 and 123 sqds. Smathers was only with 438 a short time but flew on ops from 28 May to 30 June. He was then posted to 402 Sqd (RCAF) for transfer to the Pacific theatre.
