David was a Typhoon pilot with 438 Squadron, at RCAF Flensburg in 1945.
From an RCAF Press Release in April 1945: "P/O David Etchells, Hamilton, Ontario, said the attack on the train was made from low height. 'We saw this train pulled up beside the woods and we kept strafing it -- going right down on it. It was a whole train of box cars with two or three flat cars in the middle. They looked as if they had tanks on them. I don't think the train would have been able to move anyway because the other sections had cut the tracks ahead and behind it.' "
